The following statement pertains to the work seen in the “Nth Gallery Show 2011” artwork gallery.
This body of work relates to the finite nature of the human form and the difficulties associated with perceiving it as such using ritualistic positioning to create an exaggerated mirror to the heavily object-oriented perception that exists of organic life.
In the paintings, discomfort concerning the transience of the human body, and attempts to settle that discomfort, have resulted in the placement of the body in ritualized compositions to stress its objectivity. The assemblages and photographs approach the same idea, but through the vehicle of non-human life. As the work concerns the process of symbolism, rather than specific symbol systems, no one religion is emphasized, but rather the compositional tendencies of several, such as radial symmetry and hierarchical arrangements.
